Introduction to the Community Reinvestment ActThe Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was enacted in 1977 to prevent redlining and to encourage banks to help meet the credit needs of all segments of their communities, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. Everyone involved in any aspect of lending needs to understand the purpose of CRA, how compliance with the statute will be assessed by regulators, and the potential impact of a positive or negative ratings in terms of receiving approval for bank mergers, acquisitions, and branch openings. During the 1 ½ hour session, we will provide a complete walk-through of current CRA regulations, beginning with the history and purpose of the statue and other regulations that affect CRA. We will describe the technical requirements, including: assessment areas; public file and public notice; and reporting and disclosure requirements.
